Quick Fix Nation

Today’s post/rant, is something that I feel really strongly about, and obviously so, what with being involved in the industry that I am passionately submerged in.

Last week I received and email from an old client that used to train with me about 2-3 years back, asking for my services, as they wanted to get in shape for their holiday.

This is pretty much a standard request that we as Personal Trainers receive, often. However, there was a time frame involved, 13 days to be exact.

Now, usually when people come to see me looking to get in shape for an event, we have anywhere from 2-6 months preparation time. Not only will it give us time to plan accordingly, it will also give your body time to adapt to any changes that can occur once you start to introduce new training programmes, or suggested nutrition modifications.

These changes can take time, and for some people, they can take several weeks before you even start to see, or feel the slightest difference. Not only that, we are all so uniquely different, to the point, in what works for the 25 year old, part-time beauty assistant, Essex girl, that eats nothing but celery all day. To the 38 year old, mum of two, that has a full time job working long hours, eating exactly the same thing.

My point is this; two weeks to try and hit a fitness/weight-loss goal is not only difficult, but it is also setting you up for extremely bad habits, lack of consistency, huge hormonal imbalances (particularly on crash diets), but most of all, FAILURE!

I am not a fan of this word (failure), and there is nothing wrong with failing, provided you have given it a good shot. The problem with the ‘QUICK FIX’ mentality, is that it will keep taking you right back to where you originally started, if not worse.

The chances are that you didn’t get out of shape, over-weight, and unhealthy, overnight. This is exactly how you need to be thinking when it comes to your health.

Make it an investment, the more time you put into it, the more you will get out of it. This is a lifetime reward, don’t wait until something gets broken, as you might not be able to fix it again.

Remember 80% – 20% Ratio – GOOD to BAD (make the bad stuff, good though), and you are onto a long-term winner!

If there is anything that I can help you with, or something that you aren’t sure of, please feel free to contact me, and I will do my best to get back to you just as a soon as I can. I am here to help!

Keep training hard, keep moving well, and let’s stay fit & healthy for a very long time to come!!
