As much as I really don’t want to blatantly plug/endorse a brand for what they do. There is one simple little word/quote that’s used by a pretty big sports brand, that I rely on when something needs to be done.
‘Just Do It’!
The vast majority of you should know where this quote comes from. For those of you that don’t, this is ‘Nike’s‘ (pronounced ‘Nikey’, this is according to a FaceBook post I read, so it has to be true, right?) strap line for getting things done!
The lady in my life and I like to use this quote, often. But we put a slight spin on it, and add in ‘Just F*ing Do It’! Some times there are things that need to be done, and yes, I also would like to sit down occasionally, and watch mind numbing television, but these things aren’t going to go away. So, I, ‘Just F*ing Do It‘!
I used to think that ‘To Do Lists‘ were for losers, and a complete waste of time! My day wouldn’t function effectively now, without them. Ok, granted I might not get everything done on that list, but I know what takes priority, and what can wait until later.
This is where you guys come………
Today, I want you to think of something different, something that isn’t already part of your daily routine, and I want you to start doing this new thing, tomorrow. It can be absolutely anything you like. Ideally, this is going to be something that will make an improvement to your day, energy, mood, whatever. Just pick one thing, and let’s start from there.
For me, I have started drinking more water this week. I had previously drank lots of water, but I am pretty sure I wasn’t consuming enough. I had no way of measuring this, so referring from a previous post ‘H2O For Life’ I now have a measurable practice that I am trying to meet every single day, and one that I have simplified by using a pint glass, the amount of times I need to fill it, and then drink what’s inside it. Sounds pretty simple, right?
Even this task can be a hard one, so my suggestion is this. We all have ‘Smart’ phones now days, and even if your phone isn’t that Smart, I’m pretty sure it has the capability to set up reminders via its calendar.
So, decide what it is you want to do, add this practice to your calendar, and then set a reminder (probably at the same time each day, and at a time when you’ll take note) to alert you of your practice for the day.
Remember, this doesn’t have to be an overly dramatic, life changing thing, choose something that you think can make an improvement to your day, maybe even help other people’s day, and one that you know you can stick to.
Here are a few examples:
- Sleep 7-9 hours every night
- Go to bed an hour earlier
- Get out of bed half an hour earlier
- Start the day with a pint of cold water
- Drink 1 cup less per day of coffee
- No caffeine after 2pm
- Eat veggies at every meal
- Eat Protein at every meal
- Try going for a walk after dinner each night
- Walk up the escalator at the tube station
As you can see these are all very small practices that you can start with. Pick one (it doesn’t have to be from my list), make it part of your day, every day for around 2-3 weeks, and before you know it, you won’t even be thinking about it. Once this is the case, you then move onto another practice.
Now off you go!
Start implementing something new tomorrow! It’s never to late to try new things.
Stay strong people!
